Grinling Gibbons style Wood carving
Wood carvings and Ornaments in high relief 17th-century inspired ornaments
The unique wood carving I am introducing you to in this folder is a technique of wood carving that has its origins in the English Baroque. These ornamental compositions are mainly made of lime wood and are inspired by the technique of the English woodcarvers of the 17th century, a technique that was very popular. As a result of this expertise, many Flemish woodcarvers moved to England in the middle of the 17th century to make this style their own and to personally improve themselves.
This type of carving has become a passion for me and I see it as a personal evolution and enrichment as a professional ornamental carver. The application of this 17th century wood carving in Grinling Gibbons style technique can be done in different ways, e.g. decorating wooden attachments to mantelpieces or on wall paneling, or it can be a monumental decoration above a door or an independent decorative ornament.
The following pictures give an idea of this wood carving technique.
