Liège style furniture & woodcarving
The 18th century, and for the town of Liège (in Belgium), a golden age begins. The position of the Prince Bishopric of Liège increased enormously. The Princes, the powerful aristocracy and a rich bourgeoisie have obtain a powerful position and attracted many craftsmen to the city.
As a result, very richly decorated and hand-carved furniture with its own regional style and identity was created in this region. This 'Liège style furniture' is of a very high quality and mainly made and carved in oak.
The 18th-century furniture from Liège is undoubtedly the most refined piece of furniture in Belgium and its unique characteristics have finally earned its place in the history of European furniture art and commanded the respect of many museums and private collections.
Maintaining this 18th-century tradition of art at the highest level remains a challenge for furnituremaker and ornamental woodcarver. The creation of a Liège style piece of furniture begins on the drawing board, where every technical detail, mouldings and the compositions of ornaments are drawn to full size.
Each wooden ornament and woodcarving is accurately carved according to the required Liège period style, until the right character and expression has been captured.
Each piece of furniture is therefore unique and no second identical piece of furniture is manufactured!
In this way, each creation acquires a permanent exclusive look and will always have a certain value for people who want to decorate their interiors with the highest degree of craftsmanship.
